Wondering what I mean by the phrase Sugar Shock?
After noticing that one baffled person needed help to learn if she or he was in Sugar Shock, let me share my definition.
As you may be able to guess, I've given this considerable thought over the course of five years, while working on my first book, Sugar Shock, and then my second book, Beyond Sugar Shock?
Below, you'll find the definition that I've developed. Bear in mind that this is a condition that affects millions of people worldwide, including an estimated one-quarter to two-thirds of the U.S. population.
Sugar Shock!™ - A mood-damaging, personality-bending, health-destroying, confusion-creating constellation of symptoms affecting millions of peoople worldwide, who often turn to processed sweets and much-like-sugar carbs, which send their blood sugar levels wildly soaring and plummeting.
The term Sugar Shock is intended to encompass the often-misdiagnosed and maligned condition of reactive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), as well as other blood sugar disorders, from insulin resistance to diabetes.
Considerable research reveals that repeatedly overconsuming sweeteners, dessert foods, and culprit, quickie carbs (such as white rice, French bread, chips, etc.) wreaks havoc on your blood sugar levels, overstimulates insulin release, triggers inflammation, and could contribute to some 150 health problems, including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome, severe PMS, failing memory, depression, mental confusion or "brain fog," mood swings, Candida, sexual dysfunction, infertility, wrinkles, acne, and early aging.
Victims of Sugar Shock also may experience such baffling symptoms as excessive fatigue, headaches, dizziness, cold sweats, anxiety, irritability, tremors, crying spells, drowsiness or the opposite (sleeplessness), forgetfulness, heart palpitations, nightmares, blurred vision, muscle pains, temper outbursts, suicidal thoughts, and more.
Ultimately, this insidious Sugar Shock roller-coaster effect brought on by eating too many inferior carbs hampers sufferers' ability to function at full throttle--or even half throttle.
My mission, of course, is to take you Beyond Sugar Shock to Sugar Freedom. That's, of course, the goal of my second book, Beyond Sugar Shock.
When you've moved Beyond Sugar Shock, you break the mesmerizing stranglehold that sugar and toxic carbs have over you.
When you've journeyed Beyond Sugar Shock, you achieve a now-elusive feeling of independence, excitement, joy, delight, and exhilaration, which is unlike anything you've ever felt.
It would be my pleasure to take you on an adventure so you can move Beyond Sugar Shock. A good first step is to get my book, Beyond Sugar Shock.
I do hope that this book helps you achieve the freedom, sweetness, and glorious life that you so richly deserve.

While I was knee-deep planning and working many hours to launch of new book, Sugar Shock, New York City came up with a controversial plan to ban jumbo-sized sugary larger than 16 ounces in restaurants, movie theaters, concession stands, and food carts.
I'll share by thoughts shortly about this much-talked about plan. (Unfortunately, I couldn't post earlier, because I was busy spreading the word about Beyond Sugar Shock.)
For now, I urge you to watch this TV interview with Bloomberg.
Then, make sure to tell us your thoughts about his plan.
But before you watch, you need to know that a 20-ounce bottle -- which people guzzle in one sitting -- contains nearly 17 teaspoons of sugar.
Also, your soda addiction can put you at risk for obesity, as well as the Big Preventable Big Killers such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer, stroke, and Alzheimer's Disease.
Weigh in now with your thoughts about Mayor Bloomberg's Soda Ban.

It's my pleasure to introduce you to Cartoon Connie.
This is the old Connie of 1998 before I quit sugar on doctor's orders due to being besieged by 44 debilitating ailments.
In this cartoon, "That Was Then... This is Now...," you'll get a glimpse at how sugar turned me into a Sugar Shrew, but now life is sweeterlicious (my word for sweeter, delicious, luscious, scrumptious, and sensuous) without all those processed sweets.
Connie's Story: That Was Then... This is Now...

"OK, maybe I didn't gorge on red licorice while cowering in closets, but this embarrassing image certainly captures the flavor of my previous addiction. Anyhow, now that I've kicked sugar, I urge others to discover the power of living sugarfree." - Connie Bennett, "Sugar Shrew No More!" & Sugar-Awareness Coach
Have you had a chance yet to order my new book, Beyond Sugar Shock?
Got a cartoon of you on sugar? If you don't, it can be helpful to prepare one. Once you see the humor in your sugar addiction, it can help you to break free so you can get a life that's sweeterlicious (that's my word for delicious, with luscious, scrumptuous and sensuous)..
If you have a cartoon, let me know here and we'll arrange for us to post it here.

Are you fed up with your sugar cravings? Do you sometimes feel like you'll never gain control over them? Rest easy!
There are many effective ways to coax those cravings to subside.
Tonight, join me for a special half-hour program in which you'll learn one powerful way to easily beat your cravings.
Master EFT practitioner Carol Look will teach you how to easily tap away your cravings.
EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique or tapping) is a form of psychological acupressure that uses a gentle tapping technique instead of needles to stimulate traditional Chinese acupuncture points.
What you do is tap on designated points on your face and body at the same time that you're verbalizing your identified problem. Then, you follow by a general affirmation phrase.
This may sound a little complicated, but it's actually quite easy. It's also safe and non-invasive.
What tapping does is balance your energy system and it appears to relieve psychological stress and physical pain.
EFT has been used for many ailments, and Carol has personally used EFT to help people with:
When used correctly, EFT has the ability to enhance the emotional peace, physical strength, and spiritual depth of your life.
To join us, just sign up here:
P.S. This is a busy time, with lots of interviews and programs, which
coincide with the launch of my new book, Beyond Sugar Shock. On Monday night, I'm presenting a free Q & A session, and most days, I'm also presenting special Gab with the Gurus shows. And next Wednesday night, you'll be able to catch me on the HLN show with Jane Velez- Mitchell.

Today marks the official launch of my new book, Beyond Sugar Shock, and I've been seeking to provide lots of fun programs and activities for you.
To my delight, Typepad, the easy-to-use blogging platform where I've been hosting this Sugar Shock Blog since 2005, has generously offered to help me hold a contest.
Calling all would-be bloggers or current bloggers (on other platforms) -- because the winner of this contest will get a year of Typepad Unlimited ($179.40 value).
Now, if you're a blogging newbie, this contest should be especially appealing. And it's also ideal if you're a person with a strong, savvy voice about a certain topic.
In particular, sugar and carb addicts and people with weight goals, this is your big chance. If you've been thinking about writing a blog about going sugar-free, leading a healthier life, or sharing tasty recipes, I urge you to apply. This is an ideal opportunity for you to write about a topic that's dear to you -- and get support from your readers in the process.
By the way, in my book, Beyond Sugar Shock, I discuss the value of blogging or journaling to help you release your sugar addiction.
You even get some helpful blogging pointers from veteran journalist Dana Kennedy, who ran her popular Year Without Candy blog from Feb. 28, 2010 to Feb. 28, 2011.
Entering the contest is simple. In order to win, you have to be either new to Typepad, or have to want to migrate your blog from another provider to this more-user-friendly platform.
Here's how to join the contest:
Your deadline to enter the Typepad giveaway is Friday, June 15 at midnight (EST), and I'll announce the show later that day.
To select a winner, I'll confer with Typepad and a panel of two other experts (like on a TV game show) to select that special person, who seems most motivated to create and maintain her or his blog to further an important goal.
By the way, I've thought quite a bit about how people should apply. This is such a nice offer from Typepad so I want the applicant to be serious. In other words, I want both you and Typepad to find this to be a worthwhile endeavor
I'll announce the winner on June 20. And please, of course, only entry per person, please.
Remember this giveaway is only open to those who aren't already blogging with Typepad.
So why would you want to be with Typepad? From my perspective, as a non-techy kind of person, I've found it easy to learn. What's more, their customer service is excellent -- you can actually reach a live person via a Help ticket.
That's one of my favorite features of Typepad. If I ever have a question about how to use a particular function or program, I just fill out a support ticket, and a Typepad representative generally gets back to me within about 24 hours with a detailed answer.
I just love that Help section. It makes life so easy for me. Because they're so good at explaining things, I no longer have to scramble to find answers.
So, what are you waiting for? Enter this blogging contest now.
Please note that while Typepad agreed to sponsor this giveaway, I will choose the winner.
In addition, all opinions are my own, and I wasn't compensated by Typepad in any way to sing their praises. I've just been a happy customer for seven years, because it's so easy to use!
By the way, I'm thrilled to report that Typepad is also doing something else very nice for me.
Any moment now, my Sugar Shock Blog will be featured shortly in the Everything Typepad section.
Stay tuned for details.
Now just post a comment here to enter the contest and get one year free at Typepad.
Special thanks to Hollywood Housewife for giving me some ideas regarding this contest.

Dear Wonderful Visitors to this Sugar Shock Blog,
This is the most important post I’ve ever written.
As you no doubt know, obesity has skyrocketed among adults and youths alike; and children are on a track to die before their parents if they don’t change their unhealthy ways.
At the same time, coronary heart disease, cancer, stroke, type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease have become our nation’s top killers. You probably know — or love — someone who has suffered from one or all of these.
But all of the above diseases are largely preventable.
I call them The Preventable Big Killers. And ALL of these potentially fatal illnesses — and many more — can be caused by overdosing on sugar and/or refined carbs.
Think this doesn’t include you? That’s what I used to believe.
But the average American — and person in any civilized country is consuming (either consciously or unconsciously) HUGE amounts of sweets and quickie carbs on a DAILY if not many-times-a-day basis.
Each of you may be taking in roughly 170 to 228 pounds of sweeteners per year and another 200 pounds of sugar’s sinful sisters, which I dub “culprit carbs.”
And every day, it seems, the news gets more frightening.
One of my favorite recent studies revealed that sugar can make you dumb!
More research suggests that it can make you violent.
Your sweet tooth even can trigger type 2 diabetes, even though your doctor may vehemently deny it.
Simply put, millions worldwide are in Sugar Shock.
For the past decade, it has my personal mission to inspire and empower sugar
and carb addicts worldwide.
I want to help them (you?) Get a Life that Rocks™, as I like to put it. (I began coaching people to Sugar Freedom in 2002, four years after I reluctantly quit sugar on doctor’s orders after being waylaid by 44 debilitating ailments.)
So I invite you now: Help me to help transform the lives of millions of sugar and carb addicts around the world!

Join Me Tomorrow (Tuesday) & Email Your Friends, Loved Ones or Entire
Address Book to Get Beyond Sugar Shock
Please join me tomorrow (Tuesday), starting at midnight.
On Tuesday, email your friends, fans, colleagues, health and wellness experts, etc. and invite them to buy my new book, Beyond Sugar Shock, all day and night.
Invite your loved ones or special acquaintances to go online.
Just send them to ==>> http://www.BeyondSugarShock.com/Book
Or encourage them to visit their local Barnes and Noble store. (Beyond Sugar Shock will be on the front table of 200 stores. If you go, please take a photo and send it to me, and we'll post it on Facebook.
By the way, Beyond Sugar Shock already has been praised by numerous empowering gurus and wellness experts, including Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Dr. Christiane Northrup, Dr. Daniel Amen, Brian Tracy, Dr. Joe Vitale, Kathy Smith, Marci Shimoff, and many others.
Joshua Rosenthal, founder and director of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition — which I attended in 2005-2006 — was even kind enough to write the foreword.
On Tuesday, the official launch day for my new book Beyond Sugar Shock, my intention is to reach millions across the world with powerful, nourishing, life-changing messages about the joy, excitement and exhilaration of Sugar Freedom.
But I can ONLY reach and HELP millions with your HELP!
So please help me to help millions take back their Sugar Power!
Millions need to discover how to break the seductive, powerful hold that tempting sweets and quickie carbs have over them.
Millions need to stand strong in the face of clever, deceptive marketing of dangerous junk foods and empty-calorie sugary beverages.
Millions need to get back their energy, vitality, and sex drive.
And, of course, millions need to slim down and get healthy.
Beyond Sugar Shock Helps People (You?) Break Free
Beyond Sugar Shock is designed to empower, educate and inspire sugar addicts and carb junkies of any size (yes, even slim people can be hooked).
My goal is to help them – you? -- easily, effortlessly, joyfully, even gleefully break free of this dangerous
addiction to sweets and quickie carbs.
Just letting go of your sugar addiction can quickly peel off pounds, help you improve your
focus, and even boost your libido.
(Just read Michele’s Sweet Success Story in Beyond Sugar Shock.)
Quitting Sugar Can Be Tough: My Goal is to Make it Easy, Effortless and Fun for You
Let’s face it, kicking or cutting back on a sugar or carb habit can be one of the toughest
challenges you’ll ever face.
That’s why I’m determined to make this simple for you.
And that’s why it’s absolutely necessary for you to put on a sweet suit of armor. You want to discover and use cutting-edge tools and tactics that strengthen and empower you so food manufacturers can’t seduce you to you eat their processed, nutrient-lacking junk just to boost their bottom line—which can add extra pounds to your bottom.
But sugar does a lot more than just make you fat, as I pointed out earlier. Lately, you’ve even
probably heard the phrase, “sugar is toxic.”
You also may have seen the provocative “60 Minutes” piece on the subject reported by Dr. Sanjay Gupta.
It’s easy to ignore this sugar-is-toxic warning. Even back in 1998, I knew that sugar was
bad for me, but I still indulged. (Learn my story in Chapter 1 of Beyond Sugar Shock.)
Now, I urge you to ask yourself: Are you, too, cheating yourself because you mindlessly stuff
those nutrient-poor silly sweets or quickie carbs into your mouth?
It would be my pleasure and privilege if you’d allow me to help you, your loved ones, friends
or colleagues easily break free of your sugar or carb addiction.
In fact, it’s my burning mission. Let me guide you to the Luscious Land of Sugar Freedom and Carb
Consciousness.
My desire to help you is why I poured my heart (and many years) into this book and the
companion Sugar Freedom Now Course.
Why am I so committed to helping you regain your Sugar Power?
Because when you undertake recommended Adventurcises (adventurous exercises) and
other suggested activities in Beyond Sugar Shock, you’ll experience a massive transformation
unlike anything you've ever experienced.
That’s my prediction — no, my promise to you.
Sure, your goal may be just to lose weight, and yes, you will easily peel off extra pounds, but that’s only a small piece of the story.
Letting go of your sugar or carb addiction will turn your life around. It will make happier, sexier, stronger, more focused and balanced.
You’ll be a far better you without needing to rely on carbs as your crutch.
So, I invite you: will you tell your fans, loved ones, colleagues and acquaintances about Beyond Sugar
Shock on Tuesday, June 5?
Just send them to ==>>
http://www.BeyondSugarShock.com/Book
Now, let’s take back our Sugar Power!

Today, it's my pleasure to kick off the Beyond Sugar Shock Book Launch Week with some exciting interviews and activities.
Although the launch is officially on Tuesday, we're getting an early start with the following:
Monday, June 4
Monday, June 4 at 9:15 am PDT: Interview with Jill Lane in Dallas. www.oneliferadio.com. Today, it's my pleasure to be interviewed by Jill Lane, an expert in the fields of nutrition and exercise physiology. Jill -- who is pasionate about helping pro athletes and high achievers attain max strength, quick recovery, heightened energy, sharp focus and optimal body fat for peak performance -- was oversaw the meal planning and recipes, which are included in Beyond Sugar Shock. Some of her current and past clients include coaches and players from the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars and Cleveland Browns as well as a variety of tennis and golf pros. As I've discovered upon interviewing Jill, her colleagues say she is gifted at turning complicated biochemistry into simple concepts and action steps that produce success.
Monday, June 4 at 10 am PDT: My Gab with the Gurus Show focuses on vegetarianism and Meatless Monday. For the first day of the Beyond Sugar Shock Book Launch Week, listeners will learn how going meatless once a week may reduce your risk of chronic preventable conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity, as well as reduce your carbon footprint and save precious resources. My guests are a Meatless Monday representative; gourmet chef/health coach Alex Jamieson (who appeared on “Oprah” and “Super Size Me” and is author of Living Vegan for Dummies and The Great American Detox Diet); and Judith Kinsbury, founder of the popular SavvyVegetarian.com blog. Both authors offer recipes, which appear in my book, Beyond Sugar Shock. In honor of Book Launch Week, Gab with the Gurus listeners will have a chance to a copy of my book, access to my Sugar Freedom Now Course, and even time with me. See this: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/gabwiththegurus/2012/06/04/meatless-monday-alex-jamieson-savvy-vegetarian-go-beyond.
Monday, June 4 at 11 am: The dynamic host and radio show veteran Diane Ray interviews me on her popular, fun "I Can Do It Hour!" on www.HayHouseRadio.com. If you haven't listened yet to Diane's inspiring show, you must! On this weekely show, you have a special opportunity to get entertained and educated each week by empowering, compassionate Hay House authors. In addition, you can call in and ask her guests questions. As I've mentioned previously, I'm honored that Hay House is the publisher of my book, Beyond Sugar Shock .
First Week in June
My article, "My 14 Years Without Sugar: Reflections on a Sour Life Turned Sweet,” runs on www.HealYourLife.com. Stay tuned for the exact link. In the article, I tell how how I made the transition from sugar addict to Sugar Freedom Coach. For those of you struggling with your addiction, you'll learn about just how bad it got for me.
Hope, Healing and WellBeing Show: Catch my interview all week with Mary Treacy O'Keefe, breast cancer survivor and co-founder and President of Well Within, a nonprofit holistic wellness resource center in St. Paul, MN. Mary's goals are to help people reduce their levels of anxiety and foster hope, healing and spiritual growth. Mary is also trained as a Cancer Guide and as a Mind, Body Skills facilitator by the Center for Mind Body Medicine in Washington, D.C. Mary's first book, Thin Places: Where Faith is Affirmed and Hope Dwells, received Honorable Mention from the national Independent Publishers Book Awards. She is currently completing her next book, Meant to Be: Do Things Really Happen for a Reason?
Stay tuned for exciting activities on the official Beyond Sugar Shock Book Launch Day on Tuesday, June 5, too.
You're invited to spread the word on Tuesday, too, to all your friends, fans, colleagues and acquaintances about this book, which is designed to help sugar addicts worldwide.

Woo Hoo!! Today's a REALLY, REALLY BIG day for me!
In 1998, I very reluctantly quit sugar on doctor's orders. (He blamed sugar for my 44 symptoms, including my fatigue, brain fog, migraines, and severe PMS.)
FINALLY, today, 14 years after I desperately kicked sugar on doctor's orders, my new book, Beyond Sugar Shock, is officially released.
It is hitting bookstores nationwide (in the U.S. and Canada). On Monday, it will be published in the U.K.
If you buy a copy of Beyond Sugar Shock, please send a photo of you and the book, which can help YOU easily, joyously release your sugar addiction, too.
When you send your photo, I'll even post it here, too.
Please note that right now, we're building momentum for TUESDAY, JUNE 5.
On TUESDAY, JUNE 5, you're invited to tell your loved ones, fans, friends, relatives, and sugar-addicted co-workers -- even people you don't like too much! ( they're probably high on sugar!) -- to buy Beyond Sugar Shock.
Find out why this book has been praised by Dr. Christiane Northrup, Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, Dr. Daniel Amen, Brian Tracy, Bernie Siegel, Dr. Jonny Bowden, Dr. Joe Vitale, Marci Shimoff, Kathy Smith, Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D. and many others.
Keep checking back here to the Sugar Shock Blog for more news about our Beyond Sugar Shock Book Launch on TUESDAY, JUNE 5, when we seek to HELP sugar addicts worldwide.
And make sure to SAVE THE DATE, TUESDAY, JUNE 5 to spread the word about Beyond Sugar Shock.
Do you have a large mailing list? If so, sign up here to join my book launch on Tuesday.
