Drinking Less Sugary Drinks May Decrease Your Risk of Disease

If you thought metabolic syndrome was just something that happens to adults, think again. Here's some fascinating new research in the journal, Pediatrics, showing that adolescents are prone to these problems, too.

Sounds like a pretty thorough study, too. The researchers from Pennsylvania State University looked at six metabolic syndrome risk factors -- blood pressure, high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, waist circumference, and blood glucose.

And guess what they found: the "higher metabolic syndrome risk group consumed significantly more servings of sweetened beverages during childhood."
